In Whonix 9, on Whonix-Workstation, if Tor has not been enabled on Whonix-Gateway (DisableNetwork 1; whonixsetup has not been run), whonixcheck will say.
Tor Bootstrap Result: Whonixcheck gave up waiting after 60 seconds. Tor Circuit: not established Bootstrapping 80 % done. Tor reports: NOTICE BOOTSTRAP PROGRESS=80 TAG=conn_or SUMMARY="Connecting to the Tor network". Possible issues: - Is the host's internet connection working? - Whonix-Gateway will need a few moments for bootstrapping the Tor network. - Did you start Whonix-Gateway beforehand? Recommendations: 1) Try again: Start menu -> Applications -> System -> Whonix Check or in Terminal: whonixcheck or in Terminal with debugging: bash -x whonixcheck --verbose 2) Run whonixcheck on Whonix-Gateway as well.
Is this sufficient?
Or should whonixcheck get information from Whonix-Gatway?
Whonix-Gateway could send information to Whonix-Workstation and tell it "Tor not enabled yet on Whonix-Gateway".
