There is now also https://github.com/satta/tor-monitor:

doesn't do a lot yet
does one thing... "Displays Tor circuits and streams"
looks like they are going to package it for official Debian
I guess there is no need to replicate that functionality then.
As soon as it's installable from Debian, we can consider installing it by default.

Now called onion-circuits which is installed by default in Whonix 14 Gateway.
